I go through a lot of preparations before embarking on an expedition. A significant part of this is preparation includes physical training.

Physical training has become part of my daily routine for as far back as I can remember. Yet even so, no matter how much I train physically, I invariably keep asking myself if I’ve done enough. On the other hand, I often try to remind myself the old saying “It is easy to train hard, but it is hard to train easy”, especially on the days when I am programmed for “active rest”.

For this Antarctic Expedition I am preparing some specific muscles by dragging tires to simulate the pulling of a sled. A very heavy sled.

The expedition to the South Pole being “unsupported”, the sled I will be pulling will weigh close to 120 kg (265 lbs) at the start and will lose about 1 kg (2.2 lbs) every day. That’s the food I will eat together with the fuel I will burn to melt snow for drinking.
