Strong Winds drift us South
The Good News: Today we covered 13.6 nautical miles in 11 hours.
The Bad News: We drifted 2 miles south overnight, and likely another 2 miles south during the day, so in reality we skied closer to 15 miles (we measure distance traveled by subtracting Point A at end of Day X from Point B at end of Day Y).
<--------- Check out the Progress Map on the left sidebar to see the drift! It’s very obvious on the map.
It can be very frustrating to work hard all day knowing that while you ski north you are constantly drifting to the south. It is one of the great challenges of any North Pole expedition, and it is commonly referred to as the “Polar Treadmill.”
But we’re still moving forward, 10 steps forward for every 2 steps back!
Our current position is N88.57.43, W63.28.10
